I have hedgehogs. These are THE ONLY bulbs I will use after over 8 years of trial and error. Others overheat even with a thermostat and melt the contact in the lamp, causing you to have to replace the lamp and bulb at the same time. You'll still want to use a lamp with ceramic base, and obviously make sure it is rated for the wattage. If using it with a pet, a thermostat is non-negotiable. But these bulbs have always outlasted and given me the least headache over other bulbs.
