One of the most important things about this mixing bowl is that it is made of borosilicate glass...truely impervious to breakage from thermal stress. It can go from freezer to oven with no damage. Pouring even boiling water into cold ingredients is completely safe. The other products that used to enjoy that reputation ...Fire King, Pyrex, Anchor Hocking..have stopped using borosilicate glass and are liable to explode if exposed to sudden changes. The very large size of the bowl makes it ideal for putting together holiday stuffings or double batches of cookie dough. It's large enough to use your hand mixer without throwing batter all over. The bowl is substantial without being overly heavy. It's also attractive enough to double as a fruit bowl on occasion. This was a good investment for a well stocked kitchen. It also would make a terrific gift for someone starting out.
