This is way cool! It didn’t come with instructions, so some may have a difficult time getting it to work. What you need to do is heat a mug of water until it is nearly boiling. Then, place the small wheel *half way* into the water. All the way submerged will not work. After watching it for a while I think I know how it works: nitinol has a memory, and you can set the memory to different shapes which is activated with heat. This looped wire’s memory is straight, so when the loop enters the hot water, it tries to straighten out. As the wheel spins, the wire pulls up water along with it via surface tension. Therefore, the nitinol wire is heated longer on one side of the wheel compared to the other. This asymmetry, one side trying to straighten out more than the other, creates an unbalanced force that spins the wheel.Side note: this is not an impossible “free energy” device as you need to input energy via the heated water.
